Siobhan Magnus House of the Rising Sun Shes dedicating the song to her Dad, who introduced her to music. I dunno peeps. She sang it really well, but she didnt take it anywhere. What style was that? I felt like I was sitting at a school assembly. She doesnt have an artistic identitiy. Randy says, You come out every week you surprise usyou take every riskyou dont listen to us at all keep doing that cause its hot. Ellen says, You are why I love musicI was captivated, you made it current you are spectacular. Casey James: American Idol Top 8 Boys

Casey James brings his acoustic guitar for the Keith Urban hit You’ll Think of Me. The smile’s gone, the hair’s pulled back, and he looks serious for a change. Casey puts just a little bit of that modern-rock quiver into his voice, but at a very quiet level. He doesn’t sound at all like Keith — and it’s a pretty cool version. Randy think it was a safe choice. He wants to see more edge, more Stevie Ray Vaughan. “It was alright.” Ellen, on the other hand, thought it was great. She thinks the sitting-on-a-stool thing feels like his “vibe.” Kara says she’s kind of “back on the Casey train.” But she’s “missing that spark.” Still, “it’s definitely a move in the right direction.” Simon thinks it’s his second-best performance. “I think it made you sincere.” But he doesn’t think it’s something to rave about or remember a day from now. Randy loves it, aside from the pitch problems, and says he made it his own. Ellen likes that he “made it a little rock,” and echoes Randy’s talk of pitch problems. (Notice she does that a lot.) Kara says he looks confident (which is kind of like saying the girl you want to introduce your best friend to has a nice personality). And she thinks he made the song a better song with his version. “I thought it was a solid job.” Oh, brother. Simon says there’s nothing to rave about. He doesn’t think Lee had a moment (his catchphrase for 2010), and he thinks Lee is better than the version of the song he just did (as a person maybe; I have yet to see proof of

American Idol Season 9 Episode 1 Premiere Boston PART 3 – Pat “Womanizer” ( Jan 12 2010 )

tinyurl.com Season 9, Episode 1: Auditions: Boston Original Air Date—12 January 2010 The “American Idol” machine comes to the Bean to kick off the ninth season. Thousands of people came to Gillette Stadium for their shot at “Idol” glory. Janet is very excitable, likes to jump up and down in an unflattering belly shirt, and claims that she does really well on the “Idol” video game. Predictably, she is bad, singing an awful version of “Pocketful of Sunshine.” (Do viewers really and truly never tire of this?) Four no’s. Maddy is number 9 of 12 kids, she has several siblings with Down’s Syndrome. She sings “Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen and it’s pretty nice, good pitch, a little breathy, and sort of earnest. They all like her and think she’s got heart and soul. Four yes’s. We get a bit of holding room hijinks from a happy dancing guy named Pat who likes to yell “holla.” He is, of course, awful, singing “Womanizer.” All no’s and Randy tells him to stop singing forever. We get a quick montage of three women who make it through. Jennifer who jazzily scats her way through “Ding Dong the Witch is Dead.” Deirdre who, I think, sings “Be With You” (by Mr. Big) in a sort of overheated way. And… Jess who does a smoky version of “People Get Ready.” Amadeo is a big Italian family that we get to meet at a big pasta dinner. At the audition he tries to soak in the moment. He sings “Hoochie Coochie Man” with a lot of gusto. They like him, personally, and Simon wants to give someone like him

Michael Lynche: American Idol Top 8 Boys

Michael Lynche idolonfox.com Big Mike gave a stunning vocal on “This Woman’s Work” by Maxwell. Kara being brought to tears was only like 2% Kara being weird and dramatic and needing attention. The other 98% was legit. Michael picked a very difficult song and pulled it off effortlessly. His falsetto and his one big note at the end were particularly stellar. It’s actually a shame that at this point they cram eight performers into an hour because I would’ve liked to hear more of Michael on this song. The snippet we heard wasn’t nearly what he could’ve done with it if he could’ve built it up and really told a story. It’s exciting to think about what he’ll do with the theme nights. …………………………………. …………………………………. All rights reserved American Idol ® FOX.com, 19 TV Ltd & fremantlemedia North America, Inc.
