Having a big gigantic list doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll be filthy rich. It absolutely sucks! It’s not worth it. It cost to damn much money to maintain a huge list.
I called my rep the other day to see how many people was opening my emails, and you know what he said?
About 20% of the people opened my emails the entire year. That’s crazy!
I’m paying $1,500 a month for a ghost list.
Right now I’m getting a crazy high response rate from a small list than with
my humongous list. The reason I believe it’s higher is because it’s a double optin list.
These people actually took the time to confirm, which lets me know that they actually want my stuff.
This is why I’ve adapted the double optin feature to my online business.
So here’s what I’m going to do.
I’m going to delete my entire database. I’m going to start from scratch.
From now on everyone who joins my list WILL have to double optin. No longer will I do the single optin thing …EVER! It’s just not worth it.
So before I start the deletion process, I’m going to kindly ask you to re-opt in.

It is a double optin which means you will have to confirm. This is the only way I will know for sure that some knuckle head didn’t sign you up for something against you will, and that you really want my stuff.
I’m only excepting people via my blog. I shut down all lead generating sites. I now longer will be taking any new leads from other lead gen sources.
Here’s what you’re going to get.
All of my training material will be provided on my blog from now on. I will also provide training material in my newsletter that will not be published on my blog.
Exclusive only to my newsletter.

Joey, I’ve just DELETED your last message to me. You know what that means? That means I NEVER RECEIVED your message about deleting my name from your list and starting over. Which means I EXPECT business as usual. I expect our codependency relationship to continue. Yes, I’m dependent upon you. I’m man enough to admit it. There I said it.
On a different note, the instructions given about creating a filter and label, don’t forget to check “Never send to spam”.

A tip for keeping the emails organized that you get to your gmail account:
1) Open the email from (joey) then click the link “show details”
2) Copy the email address that is showing on the top left
3) Click the link “create a filter”
4) Paste in the email address at the “from” field then click “next step”
5) Select “skip the inbox” then “apply the label” choose a new label of your choice.
6) Finally select “also apply filter to” and click “create filter”… Done!
Now you emails will not come to the inbox but direct to the folder like “joeys blog” so you will not
miss any important emails.

Sounds like a recent Webinar may have influenced you a bit. Though I am surprised you have not been using double opt-in all along. This should be general practice and generally taught by those more experienced marketers and inexperienced alike.
A lead is not a lead, trust me from years of direct sales in home in the service sector, straight commission. You are out there slugging through your 5-6 calls hoping someone will take a contract or heaven forbid need a unit and actually qualifies for credit or has the funds available.
Depending on a phone room slugging through the blue books and old bought lists for leads daily. You are part of a fifteen man room hey you know when the qualified leads are coming in for sure because there are actually people home.
So having a qualified lead makes your job a lot easier because they chose to be enlightened or receive our service at a specified time and they confirmed that request via a phone call before the tech was sent out. When the system is working right there are more sales and up sales.
Double opt-in is the only way to go in my book. Glad to see its catching on.

Anyway, I do agree with you though, I should have been using the double optin a long time ago. I just started to implement it from the beginning of this year. Just recently I decided to just do everything that way.
This whole internet marketing thing of ours is a never ending learning curve. You never stop learning. There’s always room for improvements. I’m just learning from my experiences and hope that people can learn from my mistakes, as well as my gains.
