Easily Apply Your Hair Extensions At Home With These Techniques

It doesn’t matter whether you are a man or woman, we all desire thick hair that is full of body. Unfortunately, not all of us are born with the perfect head of hair. In order to achieve that look you desperately desire you might consider hair extensions. Professional hair extensions can get really expensive, however for those of us who are on a budget, you should consider doing your own hair extensions at home.

If you apply your hair extensions at home you can instantly change your look. You can add that volume, length and body that you have always wanted. There are two basic types of hair extensions that you can easily apply at your home. These are the clip in and glue on styles. The quickest and easiest way to add hair extensions is by using the clip on style. Clip-ons can easily be taken in and out at your convenience. For a more permanent style you might consider using the glue on extensions. These last about six weeks on average.

Hair extensions work just like your own hair and can be curled, dyed and straightened with no problems. When you are doing your hair extensions at home you can choose between the more expensive extensions with real human hair or the synthetic version for those on a budget. Each style looks good and will perform nicely.

A step by step method on applying your hair extensions at home is listed below:

Step 1: Choose Your Color – The color you choose for your hair extension is very important. Would you like your hair extensions to completely blend in with your hair? If so, then choose a color that is very close to your natural hair. For a highlighting effect, select a color that is a few shades darker or lighter than your natural hair.

Step 2: Preparation – You need to prepare your hair for the application of those hair extensions. Wash it thoroughly, cleaning off any dirt and grime and rinse it carefully. Do not apply any hair conditioner as this tends to make the hair slippery and it would be difficult for you to attach the hair extensions.

Step 3: Separating The Hair - Use a comb to part your hair in the middle on the back of your head near the top and clip your hair up on top of your head. Doing this will create a horizontal line between the two sections of hair. You are going to attach the hair extensions along this line.

Step 4: Time to trim – Take out the scissors and trim your extensions to equal the same width as the back of your head. Doing this will make the hair extensions look more natural.

Step 5: Apply the Extensions – Now apply the glue if you are using a glued on extension and let it set for half a minute before you apply it to your hair. Be sure to stick it to the roots of your hair and not your scalp. Attaching it to the scalp would only cause the extensions to become rigid and they would not move about freely with your hair. If you opt for clip-in extensions, then it is even easier to use. Just apply some pressure on the clip to open it and place the clips along the back in the horizontal row you have made. Clip-on extensions are much smaller then glued-on and you would need to place a few separate pieces of hair along the horizontal line to create a natural effect.

Step 6: Final Touches- Now for the final touches of your new crowning glory, let your hair down so it covers the hair extensions and trim any hair that doesn’t blend in with the new look. Remember that those clip-on extensions need to be removed by the end of the day while a glued on version can last for up to six weeks or more. You can style, dry, and curl them with the rest of your hair. However, do not brush the delicate base of the extensions as this would tend to loosen them.
