Ok so before I proceed with my backlink strategy, I wanna let you know about the big change I did. As I said in the last niche site challenge post, I chose dominotablesite.com as my targeted niche, (mainly because of the word “domino”).
I wanted to make a site about domino tables and how to build them. Well as I went deeper in my research, I found that the word “dominoes” and “dominoe” got searched more often. It had more potential money to be made, and the competition wasn’t all that bad.
As you can see by the image below that I almost made a huge mistake. Although I still believe the original keyword would’ve done ok …after some real thorough research, I found a better keyword to target and potentially more profitable. Like I always say, “A little patience will get you greater results”.
If I would have gone with the original idea without doing thorough research, I would have wasted a lot of precious and valuable time.
Here’s a snap shot I took from Market Samurai:
Another reason I went deeper in my research is because I really didn’t want my niche site to be only about domino tables. If I was doing a Micro Niche Site, then yes, domino table would’ve been perfect, and I still might do it anyway, since I already have the domain. I was sort of limited to the content creation part of it since the main domain had “table” in it.
I decided to go with DominoesInfo.com. It’s perfect for what I want to do, and after seeing the results from my research, I can really fill the site up with different types of content. Content that people are actually searching for. Not just domino tables. I can still do the table thing that I wanted to do, it’s just now I have more freedom as far as creating content. The site is all about information on the dominoe game so the possibilities are endless.
Ok so that was the big change for me in this challenge.
Change is one thing you should never be afraid to do. Even if you started your niche site already. You can start all over again. If you think there may be a better keyword term, then do some more research. Do not settle until you’ve exhausted all options.
Backlink Strategy
This is a backlink strategy I used way back in the day. A backlink strategy I haven’t used in years. As a matter of fact, I even thought is was outdated, since it’s been forever since I used it. But after doing some good ol’ fashion research, I found that people still use this method and it still works.
The same concept and idea is the same. People just call it a different thing now. I made this video for you cause I thought it be easier to show you how I’m going to do it.
I forgot to mention in the video that the outer layer is also know as “indirect link sites”. You want to make sure that you link your outer layer, (indirect links layer) to your Anchor sites, not your main niche site. This will ensure some good sound SEO juice flowing to your niche site.
Backlink Strategy Funnel
As I said in the video above, I’m not going to cover content strategy much. There’s really not much to it. There’s just a few things you want to make sure you do when creating your content.
-Create Unique Content: For your main niche site you want to have the best and the most unique content as possible. If you’re going to spin articles for your main niche site, make sure you spin them as unique as possible. Minimum of 75% uniqueness. This will ensure you don’t get penalized by goolge.
-Anchor Sites: What you’re going to do here is spin the content from your main niche site. You do this a few times and publish them on your anchor sites and make sure you direct link back to your niche site.
I’ll be using a tool called Content Professor to spin my content. I found this one tool looking for a spinner that’s compatible with mac. It’s completely web based so it’ll work for both mac and pc. It’s pretty bad ass, lol.
Make sure every time you spin your content, that it makes sense. You still want people to enjoy your stuff. Just because it’s on another site doesn’t mean that it has to be crap. Remember, you’re building an audience here. You want them to go to your main site. That’s the main goal.
You’re going to post them only on:
- Top Article directory sites
- Top Web 2.0 sites
- Video Sites (if you making videos)
- Free blogs (wordpress, tumblr, blogger, etc.)
It is best to post these on sites with P.R. (page rank) of 3-5 for maximum results. If you can do 6 or higher, than do it. The thing with those high P.R. sites is that many tend to charge, and we don’t want that now. Maybe later if your site actually lands on page 1 of google, then you can hit those high pr sites to boast you up.
-Indirect Link Sites: Here you re-spin content from your anchor sites and publish them to your outer layer sites (indirect link sites). Make sure you ONLY link back to your Anchor Sites. This is important.
This part you can actually outsource if you want. I’m definitely going to ;-) All you’re doing here is Mass Article and Bookmarking Submissions. You don’t need 1000′s of them, just a few 100 or so. Remember, you want your site to seem like it’s “natural”, a “real” site.
I’m going to work …
Ok so that’s pretty much it for me here. Hope you found this helpful. I’ve already begun creating content for my niche site. Next I’ll be doing some of the anchor site stuff. Once I get that done, I start with the indirect link sites.
As I create more content, I’ll do more Anchors and Indirect sites.
The race is on now. Lets see how fast I can get to the first page of google. (this is actually where the fun begins)
[Quick Tip] To speed up the process a bit, I’ll be posting and looking for someone to hire on oDesk to do the indirect link sites. That way when I’m done with the anchor sites, I can have my outsource person working on the indirect link sites ASAP.

Hey Joey,
I couldn’t get past the 4:29 mark on the video, it just loads super slow for me and I’m on a 5Mb connection (a fast one).
But it is cool to know you actually are working on another site (dominoesinfo.com) and it surely looks very well optimized so kudos for that!
I was left a bit wondering why you didn’t use the first one for anything though.
Maybe you could just permanent-link to the second one with a 301 redirect or maybe even throw in some content as well.
Sergio
Damn that video. I’ll have to upload it to youtube. I’ll update it in the next few days. At the beginning of the post I explain why I changed the domain. From my research I found it was a more targeted keyword rich domain. And by the results I’m getting, I was right. I also wanted the site to be more than just a domino table site. I still own the domain so maybe one day I’ll create a site just for the domino tables.
Joey, when you submit your first round of spun articles to the higher ranking (inner rim of your wheel) with your main URL as the link, is it OK to use some of the other spun articles ( I always try and spin about 50-100 when I spin the first lot from my site) but with links to the (inner wheel rim sites instead of to your own site.
After all, what’s the difference between spun articles as longbas they we accepted as unique. Just trying to think of ways to save some time.
Yes it’s perfectly ok. What you want to do is make sure that all your spun articles that you submit to the Anchor sites (inner rim of wheel) makes sense to the reader. It’s important because the anchor sites link straight to your Main Niche Site. People will read those and you don’t want people thinking your a dumb ass or can’t write worth a lick. Then they wont go to your site. Remember, first impression is key.
Anyway, hope this answers your question. Thanks.
I have SEO-Quake installed on my browser and I wonder that the backlink count varies sometimes very much. On one blog the backlinks on google went from 12,000 to 5,000 in one day. On another blog the backlinks on Yahoo went down from 1200 to 600. I ask myself if they are lost or just not seen on the SEO-Quake count. – I said to myself not to take this too serious, but still. Do you have an explanation?
I also have SEO Quake. It works kind of funny most of the time. I mainly have this tool just to gather info on page ranks, alexa rank, and domain age. As far as backlinks goes, I’m still not sure if it has a real impact on the search engines. It’s been a debat for years amongst “SEO Specialist”. I just focus on getting quality backlinks rather than the quantity. It is also said that to many bad backilinks are not good for your site. Hope this helps some ;-)
Hey Joey
When you do the keyword searches in market Samurai, do you use broad, phrase, or exact match, and what other filters do you use, to ensure you come up with great words?
Also, re link wheels, doesnt Google frown on these, or am i thinking of something else?
Hi!
What is the difference between Article sites like ezines and mass article submissions sites you mentioned?
Can you give me addresses for mass article submission sites?
Thanks for the video…
it’s all the same thing. Mass article submission means you mass submit to as many sites as possible. Usually second rate article sites. PR 1-2 and the lower end PR3 sites.
The PR4 and up you want to submit the good stuff. Hope this helps…
How many articles should one strive for on the niche site, the anchor site and the indirect link sites?
well that all depends on what type of niche site you’re creating.
A Micro niche site you want only a few articles targeting a specific product and/or keyword/phrase.
A Passion niche site you want a bit more. You’re creating a site about your passion. You’ll want to give some history, why it’s your passion, etc. Maybe 10 to 20 posts and 5-10 different topics about the specific targeted niche.
And the Brand niche site is unlimited. You continuously provide content. Doesn’t have to be everyday. But as your audience grows, so should the amount of posts.
Hope this helps.
Hi Joey,
Great video I’ve seen wheels before but looks great Thanks for the lesson and new nuggets.

I had to watch this video a third time to find out what you meant by anchor sites, but now that I have that and I do understand it, my one question is how is the actual linking done???. Is it through your URL or another way??? If the niche site has the domain name and your anchor sites are linking back to the niche site it would be linking back to the original domain URL correct???? If that is the case what URL are you using to
link back to the anchor sites, which I am assuming has its own link, but where does that link come from??? . I am lost on how the linking is actually done, can you help me with this???? If I understood this I would be ready to go……
The linking is done when you put your main niche domain in the article on any of the anchor sites. You can use any link with in your main niche domain or the domain itself. For example. If you post an article on one of your anchor sites that talks about a specific topic, then you would link to that page on your main niche site EX: YourDomain.com/article1. If you post a general topic that it’s just about XYZ niche then you would just link to your main domain EX: YourDomain.com.
QUICK NOTE: when linking you want to make sure you hyper link your targeted keyword. EX: My target key word is “playing dominoes”. I would hyper link that keyword with my link “http://dominoesinfo.com/how-to-play-dominoes”.
Hope this makes sense, lol.
Thank you for responding to my questions and I am just getting back to this now which gives you an idea how busy I am.
I am still lost on the linking from the outer sites to the anchor sites. I understand that the anchor sites will use the original domain url back to your niche site, but what url will the outer sites use to the anchor sites??? I am assuming that you would want them using a different url back to the anchor sites so that it looks like these are sites not developed by you, but by someone else, am I correct in the way I am looking at this??? I like the whole idea of the wagon wheel or link wheel as I have read others call it. I need to know this because I am preparing to build a niche site and I want to have it perfectly clear what I am suppose to do. Please clarify this for me Joey as I am very close to being ready to start this, and I am
highly motivated by all that you have shown us.
Paul
Ok I think I understand where you’re lost. Let me break it down real quick.
Anchor sites: You link directly to you niche site. Example. On Ezine.com you post an article and you put the link yournichesite.com in it. You do this for all anchor sites.
Indirect Sites, outer layer: You link directly to your Anchor Sites. Example: on articlecube.com you post an article and you put the link from ezine.com/yourarticle in it. You do this for all indirect sites, the outer layer.
What you’re doing is taking the links from the Anchor sites and putting them on the outer layer sites. This will look more naturally in the eyes of google. You don’t have to hide or make it look like it’s from someone else. Just be you and you’ll be ok.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you got any more questions. Cheers.
G’Day Joey
I have been following this series with great interest. You have inspired me to rise to the challenge and build my own niche site. In this post you raise an important issue that I, and, I am sure, others would appreciate a bit more detail.
At the start of this post you list your reasons for changing from dominotablesite.com to DominoesInfo.com. I do, understand your reasons, but this highlights one on my dilemmas. Niche vs Micro Niche.
For the newbie, what is the best way to go?
Do you go for a micro niche like dominotablesite, or, go for an even a smaller niche like diydominotablesite (based on your woodworking passion).?
I would think, you have a better chance to dominate that micro niche in a shorter time. A micro niche requires less pages, less articles, less work to become the guru of your micro niche.
On the other hand, your choice to expand your original niche to include all things “Dominoes” would require far more work and a lot longer to build the site. Expanding the niche like you have, obviously increases the products and services you can offer. But, on the other hand I think these types of broader niche sites have a tendency to become shopping cart sites and loose that personal touch a micro niche site tend to have.
Your thoughts would be appreciated
Great point there Galpet. Yes, I would dominate more and faster if I were to go with the micro niche model. Dominotablesite.com is more of a micro type url. As I said in the first NSC post, I wanted to do a passion and a brand niche. Almost by accident I went with a micro niche. That’s not what I wanted to do. I got caught up with my love of building a domino table instead of my love for the game in general. I still can target that micro niche from with in the main site dominoesinfo.com.
I also agree that it will be a bit more work for me since I’m going more broad, but the end result will be greater and more profitable. I can target a lot more from with in the site.
As far as for the best way to go for a newbie, I would go with Micro Niche definitely. It’s a lot easier, faster, and less work to do as far as content creation goes. The backlinking stuff is the same work load.
The Micro Niche type is best for newbies mainly because you’ll be learning “the ropes” and basically going through the learning curve. Once you get good at it, you can move on to bigger projects.
Hope this helps a bit. Let me know yeah.
Thanks.
I’ve been researching this topic lately and OMG, you’ve explained it perfectly for me.
God Bless,
Andre’ Smith
Hi Joey, I enjoyed your video. Your personality is doing so much. And thank you for the info! Can you say how much the Content Professor costs monthly? There is a free trial. But I don’t want to put so much time into something, before I know the costs.
Thank you so much Christa. Glad you like them. For Content Professor, they do have a free version. I don’t know what it’s limits are as I have the paid version. I think I paid like $77 for it. It’s not a monthly cost type thing.
My advice is to get the free version first. Try it, play with it, and if you think it’s worth it, then get it.
Thanks…
Hi Joey,
Thanks so much for the show. I have been learning all I can about backlinks, but seeing
first hand is so much better.
You are a good teacher. Thanks for the formation…
If you will say me this russian language, I your friend…!
If I could speak I would, lol. Sorry ;-(
Joey,
Do you create any new content for the anchor site to re-spin for the indirect sites? Or are you just re-spining the re-spun article from your original niche site?
Niche site (original article) -> Anchor site (spun original) -> Indirect site (anchor site spun article re-spun)
Hope that made sense.
Thanks,
Melody
yes it makes total sense. [ Niche site (original article) -> Anchor site (spun original) -> Indirect site (anchor site spun article re-spun) ] This is exactly what I’m doing. Creating original content for the main niche site. The spin those articles and post them on Anchor Sites. Then re-spin the anchor site articles and post them on indirect sites.
You only want to spin your main niche site content a few times. You want to leave it as original as possible.
You can re-spin the anchor site content as many times as you want.
Hope this helps. Thanks.
Really Simple Syndication = RSS
Now, I have a question about this. I have RSS on my site, how do I get my RSS out there? I’m not sure how to make the most of my RSS feed.
really, that’s what it means, lol. Never knew. Anyway, one way to get your RSS out there is through pinging. Your blog will o this automatically. And if you set up your RSS with feedburner, then they will o it as well. Other than that, it will happen on its own. Once your site starts to climb the ranks, other sites will start to piggy back off your RSS.
At least that’s my theory and I’m sticking with it ;-)
lol
Great stuff Joey! This must be similar to these link wheels I’m always hearing about. As far as RSS and pinging for free properties like blogger, weebly, squidoo etc., you can go to pingomatic.com or pinggoat and ping the site or post to a bunch of syndicators.
OH! Big lightbulb moment for me Joey. First, I had no idea about the difference between authority sites, and mass article submission sites. I was treating them the same. Second, I was only putting my original articles out there, and now I see I need to keep original stuff on my site only. This is really BIG for me. Thanks so much for the very helpful information.
You’re most welcome Rachelle. Glad you got a gem out of this. Sometimes that’s all you need to get going. Thanks again.
